Carers & Community Services
Carers
Quick links
A carer is someone who helps another person, usually a relative or friend in their day to day life. This is not the same as someone who provides care professionally or through voluntary organisations. Carers are adults and children who take care of adults or disabled children and they are unpaid. The caring role can be stressful and isolating. Carers provide care to people who are ill, frail or living with a disability and cannot manage without them. For more information on help for carers, please see some useful information for the type of help available.
Help for carers
If you are a carer you may be able to get help from Haringey council. Haringey council's carer's hub at Wood Green central library has recently opened. It offers a relaxing space to meet other carers over a cup of tea.
Financial help for carers
You may be entitled to a Carer’s Allowance of £62.10 a week to help you look after someone with substantial caring needs. You don’t have to be related to, or live with, the person you care for. To check your eligibility and apply visit GOV.UK's Carer's Allowance page
Voluntary Organisations Offering Support During Covid - 19
Connected Communities is a programme set up to improve access to council and voluntary services, and support in Haringey to encourage residents to live their version of a good life.
If you are worried about the impact of coronavirus on your money, accessing essential items or the support you need please call the Connected Communities line: 020 8489 4431. The line is open Monday to Friday 8.30am-6.30pm. Alternatively, you can visit the Connected Communities website: https://www.haringey.gov.uk/community/connected-communities
Connected Communities can now be found at the Hornsey Health Centre on the 2nd floor on Mondays only, 10am-4pm. To minimise the movement of people in the building, please go to the main ground floor reception area and follow the signs and arrows to where the team is based on the 2nd floor.
